Ink Tank vs Laser Printer: Which Is Better for Home and Office in Pakistan?

Ink tank vs laser printer: which should you buy for your home or office in Pakistan? Both are cheap to run compared with old cartridge inkjets, but they suit very different jobs. This guide explains the difference in plain terms, compares running costs, and recommends ink tank and laser printers from our own range at Meit Shop, with prices as of October 2026.
Ink tank vs laser printer: the short answer
- Choose an ink tank printer if you print in colour: school projects, photos, colourful documents. Refill bottles are cheap and last a long time.
- Choose a laser printer if you mostly print black-and-white text: invoices, letters, assignments, office documents. Laser printers are fast, sharp on text, and don't dry out if left unused.
How each type works
An ink tank printer (Epson EcoTank, Canon Pixma G, HP Smart Tank) is an inkjet with large refillable tanks on the side. You fill them from bottles of ink, so there are no expensive cartridges to replace.
A laser printer fuses toner powder onto paper with heat. Text comes out crisp and quick, and a toner cartridge holds powder, not liquid, so it doesn't dry up.
Running cost: ink tank vs laser
Running cost is where most buyers decide. Two examples from manufacturers' published page yields:
- The Epson EcoTank L3210 is rated at about 4,500 pages per black ink bottle and 7,500 pages from a set of colour bottles (Epson's figures). That makes ink tanks the cheapest way to print in colour.
- Entry-level HP laser printers such as the HP LaserJet 107W use the HP 106A toner cartridge, rated at about 1,000 pages. Toner costs more per refill, but it's reliable for text-heavy printing.
Real yields depend on what you print: photos and full-page colour use far more ink than a page of text.

Frequently asked questions
Is an ink tank printer better than a laser printer?

Will my ink tank printer dry out if I don't use it?
Ink can dry in the print head if the printer sits unused for weeks. Print a test page every week or so to keep it healthy.
Which printer is best for students in Pakistan?
The Canon Pixma G2010 or Epson EcoTank L3210 for colour assignments and projects; the HP LaserJet 108A if they only print text.
